Ruger American Predator action screws too long?

I was getting around to cleaning and torqueing the action screws on my RAP in 6.5 Creedmoor. They were not at the 60-80 in/lbs as recommended from the manual when I purchased it.

As I was reassembling, I could not get the bolt to cycle. When I loosened the screws, the bolt would cycle. Upon inspection, the rear action screw comes through the bottom of the action and touches the bolt.

I have tighted the screws according to the manual (alternating the front and rear screws until proper torque was achieved. New action screw from Ruger did the same thing.

Anyone else have such a problem?

Thanks!

Are the two screws the same length or, if one is shorter, did you reverse them? If they are the same, just shorten the offending screw.

I bought a Boyd's stock for my stainless RA in .223 and one of the their provided action screws was slightly too short to engage fully. I bought a couple of 1/4" longer bolts (1/4"-28) from a bolt supplier and shortened it with a grinder untl it was exactly the right length.

Try as they may, no 2 stocks are the same. I remember when M700 Remingtons used to have washers on the front action screws when necessary and have seen the problem on M70's as well. So simply shorten the screw appropriately and go on about ones business. That's why the screws were not torqued correctly from the factory, the assembler backed them out until the bolt would not bind. Bob!!
