Does anyone here know if the Ruger American line is using the same footprint as a Remington 700 for the scope bases?

I'm considering getting a Ruger American Ranch in 5.56 as a plinker and was curious if I wanted to replace the factory picatinny rail with something better like one from Ken Farrell which pattern they used for the holes.

They are not the same. Easy info to find. I don't own an American but what is so bad about the included rail? Id think there'd be other places that need more attention to improve the rifle vs the rail.

I've never owned or even held an American so hopefully nothing wrong with the included rail and the scope and ken farrell rings I'll be pulling from my M18 Mauser will play nice together on it.

That would be the only reason I would consider changing the rail, but it appears that would be difficult anyway with the seemingly odd one-off hole spacing they chose to use. At the minimum I would maybe just epoxy bed the included rail to the receiver and call it good.

I see no reason the included rail wouldn't be adequate for such use. I've hunted with my Ruger American through 2 deer seasons and while I'm not rough with my rifles, they do get a moderate amount of typical bumps/knocks. Maintaining zero or any other failure of the scope mounting system has not been an issue.

I never understood the "need" to change something on a gun before even physically examining it. A rail is a rail, other than milling some degree of elevation for long distance shooting I am not sure what there is to "improve" upon 🤷‍♂️

There are a handful of options if you want to change things up. Sometimes an extended rail can be handy depending on the scope. I would expect that the factory base is a shorter length but Im sure it is a quality base.

I have a few Ruger Americans the pic rails work great! but tally makes some good ones too! Cleans the gun up aswell

Brought my RAC .308 home about 10 years ago, zeroed it, and have not had to move it since.

Similar story with the 17 HMR.
