Aside from my RPR I've never owned a ruger rifle. Now considering a Ruger American Gen 2 in 300 blk. CDnN has them on sale and I'm sort of attracted to the idea of a 16" barrel I can shoot subsonic suppressed heavies. Are these rifles decent, accurate, overall quality? Does it take AR mags? Thanks.

All the short cartridge ones I've handled were set up for AR magazines.
I have a Ruger American in 6.5 Grendel. It's accurate enough for most purposes but I've had some feed issues that seem to be partially mag related.

I have a Gen 1 300 BO. I love that rifle. Extremely accurate and quite suppressed. It is a heck of a deal for what they go for. Yes mine takes AR magazines.

I have 4 in different configurations. 300BO is my personal favorite round. Especially if you get into reloading.....and then even MORE if you get a suppressor.
Getcha one

So i just checked out which one youre looking at on their website. All of mine are AR platform 300s. But I have been looking at videos of this exact rifle for a little bit now. I WANT ONE!!!
I honestly do not believe you would regret this purchase at all. I am considering one myself. Esp if they come out with a nice wood monte carlo style stock.

Dang it! Now ya got me ordering one off GB. Which also led me to a Winchester 1892 lever action takedown.....

One thing I'll point out: there are actually AR type magazines which are designed to handle the 300 round specifically vs just hoping the internal points of a .223 magazine make things flow properly.
I've not found this necessary even though I've carried an AR 300AAC in PDW configuration for the past 4-5 years. AR mags are meant for use in a 'slam/bang' action operation and sometimes seem hitchy or drag when used in a bolt action.

I just ordered it from grab a gun. It's too cool a little package to not get for $600. I also picked up a couple magpul PMAGS specific for .300blk. Ordered a couple hundred rounds of various ammo including subsonic 200 and 208 gr from SGAmmo. Question about that, both listed velocity well over 1000 fps which I recall being over the speed of sound at sea level. I thought subsonic ammo needed to be 700-ish fps??
Now just need to figure out a red dot optic for it. I'm thinking a MRO or T2 type. Any thoughts? I wanting some thing for quick shots out to 100y max.

You will be very happy. I have a 3x9 on mine. Do you have or are you going to get a suppressor? THAT is where it really shines.

Speed sound is approx 1100ft/second at sea level

Sub-sonic 300 is lots of fun. In the right light conditions, you can see the bullet in flight. Couple years back, we were zeroing the 300 AR pistol Grand Daughter uses to hunt deer and I could tell her where the bullet hit before she could look through the spotting scope. ;)

A couple of other options: Burris AR-332 is a 3X 'prism sight' with the reticle etched into the lens plus illumination giving the option of full light or dim light use. It has a decent field of view and works OK in dim light while providing far better accuracy than any 'dot optic' I've tried. Downside is: it has similar eye relief to a 'real' scope vs infinite eye relief of most dot optics. Another option giving better 100 yard accuracy while maintaining quickness would be a 1-4x, 1.5-5x, or 1-6x(my choice for an EDC carbine)-some have lighted reticle options. Downside of these is some will top a pound of added weight to the firearm.
FWIW, I carry the combinations I mention daily and have the opportunity to use them frequently. YMMV

Maybe not what you are looking for, but I have a primary arms 1-4 illuminated on an AR that works really well for me. Not gonna kill the budget but I do like the ability to go to 4x
