I just picked up a NIB 96 22WMR and it is sweet. It will keep my .17HMR company. Nexit is the 44. What do you think about a 44 in the 96 model?

Great short range deer/black bear gun, also fun to just shoot. Accuracy seems to vary from gun to gun, but do you really need moa from a 100 yard carbine? With the right load most will shoot under 3" at 100, my favorite load will shoot just over an inch out of my 96/44. The prices seem to be creeping up on these recently, so if you can find one for a fair price, I would pick it up.

True about the prices going up. What would be a good price for a top notch 44. Probably will look at GB to start. Thanks

They are pretty desireable, before the crash I saw 96s and 99s going for over $800.

I just looked on GB and 96s are going for under $500, only one 99 but the price was $700 on it with no bids.

Thanks mattsbox99. The Blue Book isn't anywhere close to that for a 96, but it's only a guideline. It's really how badly you want it.

It's my favourite hawg gun. :D Pity it only holds four in the mag - I've run dry in the middle of a firefight a few times.

The 96/44 is my all-time favorite deer gun for the type of hunting we do. Thicker woods, and rarely (if ever) do you get shots over 100yds. It carries like a dream for walking all day, has a removeable magazine for easy loading/unloading, and has a solid top receiver that allows for low scope mounting.

Accuracy is adequate for a 100yd deer gun, some better than others.

I look forward to carrying it every deer season that I pull it out. That gun has filled my freezer for many years.

The 96/44 is a sweet little rifle that is right at home in the deer woods. If you like the two you have, you'll love the 44 version.
