I was doing a wipe down of long guns this evening and thought I would post up 3 of my tang safety Ruger 77's. Chamberings are (from top) 458 wm, 338wm and 30-06. The 458 wears a red dot scope, the 338 a Simmons 4x 12x 40 and the 30-06 a Bushnell 3200 3x9x40 firefly. The slings are Ruger Claws.

A few of my friends.

I have added four since this photo; a .243 M77R, sn 3XX, a 30/06 flat bolt M77R, sn 70-xxxxx (this gun was "rescued" from a life as a boat paddle and is getting a Ruger Factory makeover), a 7mm Mag M77PL, 71-xxxxx, and a 30/06 M77PL, sn 70-xxxxx. Workin' on a few more

Three on right are 77/22's, two synthetic stocked are both 70-xxxx guns, one 7X57 and a .243, but set up to hunt.

NIB is great, a couple are, but I kinda like guns that have stories to tell, and giving then a new life. :)

Amazing collection 208!

This is currently the only M77 (and the only bolt action rifle) that I own. A Mark II All Weather .270 that I got when was 16 or 17.

208packinheat, I knew Alan Horst about the mid-1970s. At that time he was working out of a trailer in Albion, WA a few miles NW of Pullman. He did some little jobs for me and recieved some firearms on his FFL for me, including a custom Bernardelli 16-bore SxS for a friend of mine, which he imported from Italy (it was a LOT easier then!).

Alan was a decent and very talented guy who never seemed to be as well-known for his talents as they deserved.

Anybody know where he is and whether he is still doing custom work?

Just found this site and wanted to let you know I am alive and well and working/living in Great Falls Montana. Thanks for asking and for showing some of my work. I continue to build custom guns and still do some gunsmithing. I'd love to hear from you.

WOW! I just noticed that you (Alan Horst) had posted. How great to see you are well and still in the gun business. I do not know if you recall the gun (far left) but I bought it from you during a gun show in Mosses Lake, WA some "a lot" of years ago. Do you still engrave?
