I have seen pictures of a Ruger 77/22LR with a Leupold fxII 4 X 28 for sale. Looks to be a 93 to 95% gun from photos. The ad states it has a 2# trigger and shoots one ragged hole at 50yds. What would be a realistic value? I do not belong to Gunbroker or similar sights to look it up.

Thanks

Thanks,
He is asking more than that. I own several Ruger hand guns and a shotgun so was interested in the 77 but not at his price. I goggled the new CZ 455 today and it looks pretty good to me.

+1 to AJGunner's price. That rig is over $1000 new, but I am always suspicious of a used gun that I don't know it's heritage--and assume the worst. I would hold the line at 500 and no more.

The CZs seem to be almost universally accurate--it's very rare to hear or read of one that's not. The 77/22 is more hit-or-miss--you might get a really good one, or a somewhat poor one, or anything in between.

Over at Rimfirecentral.com, the question used to come up pretty regularly, Which should I buy, 77/22 or CZ452? Virtually all of the CZ owners recommended the CZ, and, amazingly, so did about half of the 77/22 owners.

Full disclosure: I own one of each. I like them both, and might actually like the 77/22 more, but there's no question that my CZ452 is more accurate--all day long, every day.

Thanks, that was a very helpful reply. I believe I will go in an order the CZ 455 next week. The 452 is no longer made. My LGS said it would take about a month to get one. Then I guess I will need to make a scope decision.
I have a Henry that is very accurate but I would rather keep it without a scope and have always wanted a good bolt action 22 with a scope. I have a 22 mag and a .17 but they do not satisfy like a 22LR.

I paid $400.00 for my 1984, 77/22 used about five years ago. It was wearing an old Simmons (made in Japan) 2x7 scope. The gun looked and still does look brand new.

I got a case of the dumbs once, and listed it for sale. I had it tagged at $500.00, dropped it to $400.00 and didn't get one serious offer. Which now that I look back at it, I'm glad I didn't. My LGS has two 77/22M's (no optics) tagged at $499.00. They're not moving.

I've looked at CZ's and they're nice guns, but I just can't warm up to them for same reason. Probably because so many people rave about how good they are. I've always been a go against the crowd guy, just to be different. The 77/22 shoots good enough for me for squirrel hunting and I think it looks like a million bucks.

I bought my 77/22 in the mid 80's along with a Burris 2-7 Compact scope for it. Plenty accurate and has served me very well with countless rounds fired in it (easily in the mid 10's of thousands). Bought a GM 17HM2 barrel for it as well a while back to make it even better. I wouldn't sell mine for $400 even without the higher mag scope it now wears or the switch barrel.

Also have a CZ 452 17HM2 I got right from Jason (CZ USA). Bought accessories and a top drawer Leupold for it, but never got around to even mounting the scope on it before the health failed, so it all still sits NIB. But if its anything like the other CZ's I've had (or the BRNO I still have) it would be a tack driver.

Old picture off my 77/22 with the Burris Compact.
