Rapidly approaching the end of the year and that is the time I go shopping for a new firearm. Well, decided I needed a 22 rifle and liking Ruger firearms decided to go with the Ruger 10/22 Target model. It comes with a laminated thumb hole style stock and some other features such a magazine and base to be used for mounting an optic sight if desired. Also has the improved trigger mechanism and the barrel is installed inside a tensioning tube. Have no experience with that barrel setup but it has been claimed such an arrangement lessens barrel harmonics when shot??? The stock configuration being a thumb hole one gives me some concern for having shot centerfire long range matches for some decades have seen more than few similar stocks break during a match but that could well be due to high recoiling rifles or misaligned in the stock itself?? Ordered the rifle from a distributor and to arrive next week and three boxes of SK LR ammunition which is supposedly excellent ammo. My question is anyone out there that owns and shoots this model of the 10/22 carbine and what do you think of it?? Any responses will be appreciated.

I have no idea if this is going to give you noticeable improvement unless you plan some serious competition BUT. The 'tensioned barrel' concept does work with thin profile centerfire barrels.
Here's my one off experience: I had a friend who was a machinist looking for 'projects'. I had several Mauser 98 barreled actions and gave him one plus the outer tube telling him what I wanted. Wartime production/use 98's often aren't really the high end of accuracy but the resulting 'tensioned barrel' is exceptionally accurate with any/all ammo tested.
The finished rifle looks like it weighs 12+ pounds but on weighs 8#. End result: a very accurate rifle weighing 2/3 what a similarly accurate heavy barrel profile would.
