I'm looking at one that a guy has for trade. He wants a small caliber bolt gun. I have a Remington 700 .243 win. I love my Remmy but I'm really jonesing for that 45/70. Help a brother out!

One of the #1's here is a .45-70 and is proberbly my favorite one of them to shoot. Classic style and a classic cartridge...what's not to love? :)

I too have been sort of getting the 45-70 urge as well as the #1 urge so I feel your pain. If you have other rifles that duplicate the 243 performance go for it. However if you are a 1 gun man then I would probably hang onto my 243.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. But there's always that itch!

Scratch the itch. :)
I just bought the following and took delivery on 04-Dec-09:
1) Ruger #1 Lyman 100 year commerative grade 2 $1,300.00 + $100.00 shipping. Ship weight 68 lbs.
2) Ruger #1 50th Anniversary $1,100.00 + $50.00 shipping
I searched high & low all over the internet and that was the very best prices I could find.
So much for Christmas. The 5 granddaughters did not REALLY want anything anyway.

Wheelgun when the itch is that bad you should probably just go ahead and scratch and just buy it after all being a two gun man is much better than a one gun guy. If the $$ are an issue go ahead and trade and replace your 243 with a cheaper alternative when you can. I have a Stevens 200 that is a heck of a little rifle and I have less than $300 in it.
