just bought what apears to be a mid 70's stainless roa , does not have nipple wrench . can a 1851 colt navy wrench work ? with its 2 sides? or does the origanal ruger wrench have 6 sides like the ruger nipples? TRied my reguler wrench but nipples are tight and didnot want to strip the flats on the nipples as they are short compared to a colt 1851 ,can a deep well socket be usd?

Yes, the original Ruger nipple wrenches for the Old Army have a hexagonal socket to fit the hexagonal nipple base. The two-sided nipple wrench used on almost all other bp guns will NOT work on the Old Army.

A hex deep well socket will work.

You may have to grind down the OD of the socket (or hex socket screwdriver) to fit inside the ROA Cylinder nipple well.

That Ruger supplied nipple wrench works OK.
I aquired a 3/16ths Hex Nut Driver and it works much better than the 90 degree bend Ruger thingee.
Control, Feel, just mo better. JMHO
