A bit more info from: http://www.gunsinternational.com/-NEW-Ruger-American-22-LR-and-22Mag.cfm?gun_id=100369440

"New release from Ruger and in stock Thursday. American model .22 rimfire series in 22 lr OR magnum and your choice of standard 22" or compact version, Both rifles come with crowned barrel, open "v" notch sights ,tang safety ,adjustable trigger from 3-5 lb's, modular stock that is interchangeable, takes standard 10/22 mags including the BX-25 rd mag,The .22 mag has a 9 shot` The full size has a 13.75" lop and a 22" barrel the compact has a 18" barrel and a 12.50 LOP..."

Should give Marlin and Savage some competition.

Ill wait and see how the reviews are. If it shoots decent and they bring out a model with a wooden stock I might be interested. As is I think it's pretty hideous and ill stick with my cz scout as a truck gun.

Don't think you'll see a wood stock on the American series... centerfire or rimfire.

Boyds may do one after-market, in fact I hope the after-market supports them.

The metal looks nice, but that stock is butt-ugly. Ick.

Will that bolt handle clear a scope?

This auction on GB has the spec sheet:

I like the interchangeable stock comb/butt assemblies... you can have an 18" with adult length butt and high comb!

Seen in LG&P this PM: a Ruger American in .22WMR.

M77/22Mag magazine, blued, polymer stock with interchangeable combs, grooved and d&ted for bases. LOP was short - at least 1" less than I expect, but not unmanageable. They also had a .22LR but I didn't fondle it. Folding rear with firesight front.

+2 for the threaded barrel preference, but I'll have one even if they GLUE the thing together. Too cheap to pass this up. The shorty barrel with full length stock option will make a great trail gun. Short bolt lift and combo drilled/grooved mounting means you can put any scope in the world on the thing.

Some good reports here from actual buyers, so far the only bug seems to be a too short rear sight on some.

I brought home a pair of the compact models this morning... ordered the longer stock inserts this afternoon. Mounted a scope on the Magnum (waiting on another pair of bases for the LR), and will set up the LR the same way next week.

The Magnum version shoots very well, and I'm hoping the LR shoots as well once I get the glass on top. Both did fine with the open sights, and I could get along with the short stock if I wanted, but... options are always good.

How do you find the balance to be? Haven't gone to find one to handle but all things point to the boy being gifted one next spring.
