The .458 was a cartidge that always interested me. Just seemed different and I'm not one for the common stuff. The shop I frequented got one in and I made the drive. Checked it over, set it down and went back to it a couple times debating the purchase. I passed mostly due to ammo costs/availabilty locally. (didn't want to add another to reload). Went with one I wanted more , a .405 so not a loss big picture. :)

Beauts both, but I'll bet they get your attention when the go off! Along with attention of anything downrange.

And that wood from another era is something else. Just don't see that on factory guns anymore.

Nothing wrong with a #1 .405. I had one and swapped it to my son. It was very accurate and the best balanced #1 of them all.

I had a No.1 Sporter in 45-70 and had JD Jones ream the throat to accept the Hornady 500gr FMJ solid. It was like a 458WinMag "special". I should have never sold that barrel. (I think I sold it in this forum!). I did it, though, to replace the barrel with a 445 Super Mag so I could distill my reloading process since I was already loading for 44Mag and previously loaded for 445SM for IHMSA. I later did another No.1 in 500S&W, but in hindsight, I should have stuck with the 0.458" caliber. Thanks for the pics! Nothing cooler than a No.1 in 458 Lott (or WinMag)!

Would love a 445 SM #1 !!! Used to shoot a DW445 in IHMSA. Thought about getting a 44mag #1 and reaming to 445 SM

You could probably do that as long as the pressure would be less than that of the 44Mag and reaming the 0.3" extra would not compromise the steel integrity. I think the ballistics are similar to the 444 Marlin but just higher pressure.
