Removing muzzle device of New GenII American

New generation two American muzzle device is really hard to remove.
It's three-quarter inch slot, but a 19 mm fits better. I don't wanna break or bend anything. Any ideas.

hi i cannot tell if this is a straight forward removal with a wrench. i know its a bugger to hold the rifle. it just screws off right?

Some of these muzzle brakes and flash hiders have been a real bear to unscrew.

I bought a pair of small strap wrenches, and that's been the ticket for me. Lotsa torque with no damage.

One on the device, and one on the end of the barrel next to the device.

Actually, the muzzle device on that rifle had holes in the device that allowed a screw driver to fit, this device doesn't afford that luxury.

I don't know how to hold onto the rifle without tweaking the stock. wondering if I should just remove the action and carefully put it in a vice.

A big pipe vise and a pipe wrench WILL get it apart.
If you don't have a pipe vise, you can mount one pipe wrench in the vise and use another pipe wrench to turn the device.
It works for old, rusty galvanized pipe, it should work for a nice, well oiled rifle barrel, too.

I use a piece of automotive heater hose split lengthwise. The hose should be a bit longer than the vise jaw width(and no less than 4" jaw width is advantageous). Slide the hose on the barrel and clamp the vice down fairly tight(not so tight as to cut through the hose). Put a good fitting open end wrench on the muzzle device flats, hold the wrench firmly in place, and whack the end with a dead blow hammer IN THE CORRECT DIRECTION.
This has worked 100% for me.

Yup…I quit. This is on there and sure, I can take a pipe wrench and acetylene torch to it, but it is going to a gunsmith first thing. No biggie to me….thanks for all the replies.

I'll admit it can be impossible to remove a muzzle device while holding the rifle by hand and using the stock for leverage isn't a good answer.

A torch on the brake should loosen the threads and any Lock tight.

Immersion of the muzzle in boiling water will soften any thread locker and expand the device enough to make a difference.
Torch bad.

The gunsmith said it ships with an adhesive on the device….PITA
