I have been thinking of getting a Redhawk in 45 LC for a while now and now that Ruger has come out with the 45 LC/45ACP combo that brings to mind a question on reloading. With the cylinder carved out to accept the moon clips and only leaving the outer edge of the cylinder to headspace the LC cartridge, will any type of distortion to the rim occur upon firing?

I have fired some pretty heavy "Ruger Only" loads in mine and have not found any issue at all with the fired brass. The cut for the moon clips is quite shallow and modern .45 Colt brass is pretty strong stuff. I think the moon clip cut is a non issue as far as support on the .45 Colt case goes.

In some guns you can load the 454casull, the 45colt and the 45acp. I asked the same question a while back and the consensus was 'no problem'. I believe you should be very careful to clean the chambers thoroughly before shooting 454casull ammo though. :D
