I have a late 1980's Red Label 12ga that I would like to defeat the ejectors and only have extractors, even after the shell is fired. Ruger claims they can do this as a service - does anybody know the procedure? Has anyone tried it themselves?

In order to function as extractors rather than ejectors, the ejectors must be replaced with a similar part that lacks the "hook" on the front.

Simpler solution (from somebody who has put a couple hundred thousand rounds through over/unders).... as you open the gun by moving the lever with your thumb and easing the forend down with the other hand, place the palm of your "lever hand" an inch behind the shells. They'll pop back, hit your palm, and stop there..... actually more accessible than with extractrs, which barely lift them out of the chamber.

I extract them like WWB suggests, I prefer that to plain extractors. Everytime I let my buddy shoot, he can't seem to figure this out and lets them fly. Its very annoying as it gets the hulls dirty or muddy or wet.

Yep, what WWB said. Works fine and you have them in your hand and you don't have to fumble pulling them out and you don't have to modify the gun.
