I communicated with Ruger and they want me to ship the shotgun to them. I use it nearly every week shooting skeet and really hate to be without it.

Has anyone replaced the springs themselves? If so where did you get the springs?

Talked to local gunsmiths who say Ruger will not sell them the parts. Any after market parts?

I realize that Ruger is a fine company that produces a fine product. The shotgun in question is one of the very first, purchased back in the seventies. It even has a blued receiver. The problem is the lower barrel doesn't always fire. The gun is clean so it can only be a weak spring.

Send it to Ruger, they'll have it back in a week or so. You'll be a lot happier having them do the work. Plus, they'll check out anything else and bring it back to spec. Its the best thing to do.

Cooperhawk, I would send it to Ruger for this reason. I seriously doubt it is the Hammer spring that is causing your problem. They will be able to check out "everything" that might cause the problem. The hammer strut assembly itself could have a "burr", be bent, built up gunk, etc., etc. Also the firing pin "spring" could be broken, kinked, gunked up, etc. It's rare for the hammer spring itself to be defective............................Dick
