Thanks to Buckman, non-ghostring, which is fine as any kind of peep sights wack-out my LASIK-weakened (20/30 or so but weakens quickly) should be enroute soon. I do both eyes open shooting these days.

I already ordered a Wiegand picatinny rail which looks superb, if a bit "thick." So, I was thinking of a LOW, non-tube red dot, like a Burris Fastfire II. But I'm not paying $65 for the "wing protectors." Best price I can get is $195 for the fastfire shipped. So, maybe I can go a little cheaper. How does this look: http://www.opticsplanet.net/truglo-open-red-dot-sight-red-green-illuminated-multi-reticle-matte-black-tg8360b.html

I'm not getting an Aimpoint Micro, Eotech, or anything like that. $200 shipped is my tap-out price. Thanks for any and all input.

In optics one tends to get what one pays for. That being said the high prices you see for the "tatictal" optics is in large part to shock proof them. Assuming that you are going to take a little more care of your optic than the average SWAT guy who may be jumping through a window with his, there is no reason why the optic you mention will not work. I have purchased 2 of the Burris 1X dot sights, cost about $145 each if memory serves. Put one on my P40 carbine, and another on a Kel-Tec RFB. Both do very well indeed for that type of colse in work, and are quite good out to 100 meters.

Thanks, I actually got an older Eotech 551 from a local gunshop for a very good price, only to find it needed to be sent to Eotech for repairs (leaking nitrogen resulted in a too dim reticle). Easy fix at their shop, and Eotech stands by their product (mine is almost 9 years old but in excellent condition). Cost flat fee of $79 to fix. Veyr reasonable, but there went my savings. And, while my Eotech is fixed, their shipping department is off until Jan 1 so it is going to sit on the shelf until 2012... Sigh. But I'll have a 100% functional authentic Eotech to use on my PC4 before too long.

I've been reading so many good things about these, I'm going to have to buy one and try it out.

These guys have them in stock. Including the little screw in 2x magnifier.

They were also having a sale where you could get one for $179 with a promo code. It's in this youtube video.

I considered those. Great reviews, but older tech means that they are large and relatively heavy. Of course, so is my Eotech, but it is an Eotech. I also have a Vortex SPARC, just got mine replaced because the on/off switch was not working properly. Also has a screw-in 2x magnifier, nice 2 MOA dot too.
