I just bought a Ruger Mark iii Hunter with the 6 7/8" barrel. I am going to use this gun for small game hunting; primarily for squirrels (I would like to be able to do head shots at 30yds without the dot consuming the entire head). I want to know what the best red dot would be for this application? My spending limit is $275.

The Burris Fasfire looks nice, but the local Gander Mountain didn't have batteries in their demo for me to check out. I really like the holographic design (I think that's what they call it??) of the Fasfire. Something with a very crisp, precise, and bright red, or green, dot would be perfect.

I've been scouring the net, but I am very unfamiliar with red dots. I want the best quality and bang for my buck!!! Thanks in advance.

i had a fastfire it was good quality the only problem that i had was it adjusts the dot intensty auto. and it was so bright that it washed out the dot if it was less bright it would have been great so i returned it to gander mtn. and picked up a bushnell holosight and i love it its a little big but it has a one moa dot with a 60 moa out side circle. at 25 yds its as good as my burris 2x scope. may want to look into the new gen. 4 holosight as it is smaller then the gen 2 that i have. only seen it online though for around 250. good luck.

You can get red dots that are small... smaller moa... but,

the easiest way to to think of the dot like you would a regular sight and adjust so your target is above the dot not behind it.

I do the same thing with scope sights and the cross hairs... I put the point of impact just above and to the left of the center of the hairs.

Thanks for the input. I really liked the Bushnell, but like you said it seemed a bit big. Do you have a link to the site that had the gen. 4 listed for $250?

Great minds think alike. That's my plan if I can't find something I like. My only problem is which red dot to go with. Any ideas???

I have a Bushnell Trophy red dot on my Mark III and like it. Although I can't compare it to others, I can't imagine anything being any better, at any price. The smallest dot is 3 MOA, which is plenty small for most purposes.

I would strongly suggest the C-More red dot system. There are more of those on competition guns than any other brand. If they hold up to the abuses of serious competitors,,, they'll be fine on your Ruger. Miss Penny has mine on her S&W 22 pistol & LOVES it! And a C-More can be had under your price range.

From the little bit that I've read they seem like a great system/setup. Which model would you suggest for my application and where is the best place to purchase them? Thanks!

Go to their website & look at the different models. They offer a couple of different mounting systems,,, and dot sizes. Plus they offer click or non-click brightness adjustments. I prefer the click type as it won't get "moved" accidently as easily. For a 22 I'd suggest a 3 MOA dot too.

I am going to have to go with the Railway system because of the weaver mounts for the Mark iii. Also, it doesn't appear that they offer a 3 MOA dot size.

I've scoured many pages on the net looking for reviews and not much is turning up. The one thorough review I found talked about how great of a sight it is but it can be very difficult to sight in???

Does anyone have one of these mounted on their .22?

Also, if anyone else has more suggestions for a red dot similar to what I am looking for, please don't hesitate to let them be known. Maybe it's my indecision, but a task that seems extremely easy is sure taking up a lot of my time...

I am just wondering how the customer service is over at C-More Systems? It doesn't really seem like they have a dealer network so their customer service dept. would be handling any issue I would potentially have. Also, does anyone know which website has the best prices on C-More sights?

We have one on Miss Penny's NRA edition S&W 22. She absolutely LOVES it. I was thinking they have a 3 MOA dot,, but I could be mistaken.
If you want reviews or info about the C-Mores,,, go to the USPSA website. I would say that 80% or more of the open catagory guns use C-Mores.
Customer service,,, they don't have a huge bunch of dealers outside the competition circles,,, but you can deal with them directly. There isn't usually much price differences no matter where you get one. Mine came directly from them.
Sighting it in,,, EASY!! You can contact me via PM or Email if you have any problems. I haven't had to re-adjust ours since it's been installed over 1-1/2 years ago. Quick,,, easy to work with,,, quality,,, competition sturdy! In fact,,, in USPSA,,, they are THE red dot by which all others are judged.

What do you think about the C-More Systems STS Red Dot Sight? Seems like it might be a decent sight.

I couldn't remember all the different models of sights,,, so I went to the web-site to look for the STS model. I couldn't find one,,,,,,,,,????????
I have the rail type mounted one,, (to use with the Weaver rail on a few of my guns,) and the click adjustment. I also looked to see what dot sizes were available. For a 22 I'd get either a 2 MOA or the 4 MOA. (Go with the 4 if you ever contemplate using it on something other than a 22.)
While I didn't find the STS model,, if it's from C-More Systems,, it's gonna be quality.
Did you look at the website www.cmore.com ???

Ok,, NOW I see what you found.
It's kinda funny that the company website doesn't have it listed,,, but it doesn't surprise me to see that Shooters Connection has it either.
Ok,,, those types of sights are becoming more & more common to see on competition guns. Tasco & DR Optiocs started it several years ago. The Dr was made in Germany,, and expensive compared to the Tasco Optima. I bought a Tasco as did several of my friends. Why? They were much smaller in size compared to the C-Mores. Well, the Tascos occasionally had problems,, then Tasco folded,,, and no repairs were (or still are) available. So if an Optima goes sour,, tough luck. The Dr is still available and then Burris offered the FastFire & it's seeing a lot of use & so far I've not heard anything negative. So now C-More is in the market with their small Red Dot. I would say that it will be just fine & a quality sight. My thinking for you is this; You plan on using it on a 22 LR gun. I think that you will enjoy the regular C-More much better. if you go with a 2 MOA dot,, you'll be more accurate as that smaller dot won't hide the small bullseye on the target when you zero it or try serious accuracy shooting. The STS, Fastfire, DR, & Optima all use a "sleep mode" as a means of turning them off. A hood snaps over them to turn them off. The regular C-Mores use a switch. Nothing like dead batteries to ruin a trip to the range or in the field.
The STS does have it's pluses. It's smaller, and easy to use. Easier to get into a holster etc too.
What it all comes down to is this; You decide what types of gun,,, type of shooting,, and the features you desire & if you choose a C-More of any type,, you'll be doing good. If I'm spending $$ on any Red Dots,, I start with C-More Know I'll be happy with the quality.

I really appreciate all your help with finding a good red dot. You'll be glad to know that your effort didn't go to waste as I took your recommendation and bought the C-More Railway 4 MOA. I can always buy the 2 MOA if the 4 is too big. Once again, thanks!
