The vital difference in the recent experiments is that they are using frozen DNA in their attempts. The book/movie postulated that the DNA came from amber, which is MUCH older. So the frozen stuff might work better.

I wonder who will be the first to claim they killed one with a 22LR. If it can be done to a modern day elephant (google it), it should apply to a wooly mammoth....unless the 'wooly' is too thick.
Just a though.
