Ranch Rifle vs PC Carbine

It looks weird hanging out. The magazine was designed for a pistol not a rifle. Does it work well? Certainly. But my opinion (an opinion not shared by all) is that it just doesn't look right. Would I buy one if I didn't already have a 9mm pistol? No
Can you please explain the difference between a magazine designed for pistol and a magazine designed for rifle? Different concept? Purpose? Do you feel that pistol magazines need to be enclosed and protected for some reason? Or is it just a visual thing for you?

Lots of good valid answers to OP question here. Here's how I see it. If OP already has centerfire rifles, he's really covered with long range, but maybe he's looking for more firepower with what ammo a rifle holds, so the change of manufacture is needed. That's a dilemma encountered by many, and especially more difficult by those living in restricted states due to their gun laws. I'm lucky to live in a pretty much free state, except we still do have certain gun laws with hunting rifles in how much even those guns can hold in a removeable magazine, if used during hunting season.

For plinking or HD, no gun has an ammo limit. I go with the idea of having it, not needing it is always better, than needing it, not having it when it counts.

I own 2 PCC's. One in 9mm set for 50-60yds and other in 40S&W set at 75 yds. Both quite accurate for the ranges I have them set up, but both can still be used quite effectively for HD, woods hunting or even open range, within set perimeters that I know they'll kill well. Yes, I do use my 40 carbine for deer hunting many times.

While most might think my PCC's aren't good rifles is because most people never owned, or just going off other reports from the internet that they're cheap and won't be up to their "cost" or "looks" standards. They're both Hi-Points and I can't say more than that. They do make them for restricted states if it matters.

I don't know the model #s, but KelTec makes a 5.7x28 and I believe a 22Mag model, where they use a 50rd magazine that lays flat on the top. Could be something, if it's within the gun laws where OP lives. These would make for a very decent HD or range rifle.

A user's opinion of 'looks' is one thing but functionality is something totally different. So far, I haven't seen a legitimate reason for the dislike of a PC carbine other than 'don't like the looks'.
A PCC is a different approach to a 'purpose' versus a rifle caliber carbine and certainly the 'looks' of the different magazine is nothing more than a personal opinion.
