I really try to stay out of pawn shops because I tend to be an impulse buyer. But I did make an exception yesterday. Looking around I found a very clean 3" SP101. Not like I need another one, but I just like them. Pretty nice gun, obviously not carried, shot some, and not cleaned, came with the box and all the paperwork. I decided to check the serial number when I got home and it's a 576 prefix, which isn't in our serial numbers here, so I went to the actual Ruger stuff and pulled up SP101's and the first thing I noticed was a picture of a blue SP. The serial numbers were about 5000 numbers apart. That's not much for such a popular gun. Anyway I'm wondering if i ran into a good deal on a fairly new gun, but I doubt that Ruger takes a picture of the first serial number of any series of guns. Any one have an idea? For those who are the curious type it was $415 plus tax so $440 out the door.
