I have a orange New Model super single six box, KNR5 for a stainless revolver for a 51/2 inch barrel. The paper work inside, to include a catalog is marked 1976. Is this the correct box? Was there a stainless 22 in 1976?

Yes, the "orange?? (more reddish) to me, one piece ,fold up boxes were used for most all the "new " model in fact inside the lid is a copyright date of 1973, I recall they made only two boxes for the most part,,,,,both were "pre marked" ( printed) the shorter boxes were for the RSTs and the longer boxes were for the Blackhawk 357 mag,,,they then put a 'sticker' over the printed end label for whatever gun they put in the box, and to answer your question YES there 'stainless' 22 caliber revolvers made then and if actually made in 1976 would be roll marked "Made in the 200th Year Of American Liberty" on the top of the barrel ............... 8)

and one of the "exceptions" ,due to the LONG barrel is the 9 1/2 inch Super Single Six, they were a white box......
