I have a stainless steel GP100, 3" barrel, .38 special caliber (NOT .357), with a fully adjustable rear sight, model #01751, catalog #KGP831, serial number 176-43XXX. I was wondering if there were a large number of this particular model made---haven't seen any of these before and was wondering if there was anything unique about this particular model i.e., a quasi-limited run for an organization/group/law enforcement?

I tried contacting Ruger directly, but there was no information they could provide for me at all about this gun. They referred me, with an e-mail address, to the Ruger Collector's Association (I believe that's what the organization was called), but apparently it was a bad e-mail address because the e-mail was not deliverable.

So I am turning to knowledgeable brethren of the forum---is there anything anyone can tell me about this particular GP100 model? Thank you in advance!

There's a thread here about this model but I couldn't find it. Here's one from the other forum:

rjm, this won't get you much, and will cost $10, but it will be the straight scoop direct from Ruger.

The past two years a lot of non catalogued GP's showed up at Davidsons in various configurations. Yours was one of them. I bought a 4" blued, fixed sight, 38 only. This one was probably from a police contract. It shows up often enough that my gun actually gets discounted a bit, compared to the line items. Yours will probably garner a small premium eventually.

I bought one of the 3 inch adjustable sight .38 Spcl back in February and sent it to David Clements for his 10mm conversion and an action job. I had my dealer order it from Davidsons and they had around 50 at the time I think.
