Just picked up the above gun, it's in beautiful condition & very few rounds thru it. Stainless barrel, Kidd single stage trigger, Simmons 3-9 scope. before shooting I took it apart to inspect & clean. It took a little pushing with a plastic punch to push the front band that attaches the stock to the barrel off but thought nothing of it. Went to the range & a shot about 50 rounds at 50 yd, accuracy was not impressive. When I came home I Took it apart to inspect closer & things looked ok but when I was installing that front band I noticed I have to push the barrel to one side a little bit to get the band on. I'm thinking this would affect the accuracy. Any thoughts, suggestions, or your own experience with this? When it warms up I'm going to go to the range & shoot a few groups with the band in place & then shoot the same number of groups , same ammo but with the band off & compare the results. In the meantime I'd appreciate any ideas etc any of you may have

I always, 100% of the time, try more than one kind of ammo when I get a "new to me" firearm. And just about every time, I find that a gun that has poor accuracy (or reliability) with one brand/bullet weight/type of ammo will shoot better with something else I try. That seems to be particularly true with the rimfires I've owned (.22 LR, .22 WMR, .17 HMR).

As always IMHO, FWIW, YMMV, etc., etc...
:)

You can try steaming and straightening the stock. I'm sure there are YouTubes available and just use 3 padded 2x4's to maintain pressure until the barrel fits into the stock without undue pressure. If the warp isn't too extreme you could possibly relieve the barrel channel which would involve a random round object of the correct diameter and some sandpaper.

I'm pretty sure in this case nothing besides releasing the pressure on the barrel would help. It sounds like there is enough pressure to force the barrel into the stock that it's distorting both. I can only imagine the wild variations that would happen as the barrel heats up.
As it is it's a pretty Semi Obscure semi collectibles but to make it any kind of accurate shooter would probably wreck that. Kinda like a Mini 14.

Not to mention what's wrong with you people??? It's not like you have to upload a tintype or anything!!!

Uhh,, some folks can't upload pictures. I don't worry about that unless it's a detail that needs to be seen to understand.
Yeah but he wants to tell us about his pretty gun and won't show us. That's like telling us about your new custom burl walnut grips and not sharing pics!!!

Not everybody is computer smart enough to post pictures. Besides,, most of us know what that gun looks like!
It took me about a year to get the hang of it. It's much easier now. Literally touch the attach files and scroll to the picture and select. You can also touch the thing at the top that looks like a picture. I don't even have a computer.

And some folks are "computer stupid" like myself. And others just use their phones,, & that's harder to use to post pics. (At least for me.) Miss Penny is MUCH better on computers than I am. Yet,, she doesn't know how to post pics. I learned,, and I still have issues occasionally.

Thanks for the replies, I found the idea of steaming the stock to straighten it intrigueing. I usually do shoot more than 1 kind of ammo but it was a last minute range trip & I mostly just wanted to shoot it, I wasn't really looking for groups that day but was surprised by the group size.
As far as pictures I don't know how to do that as I am computer stupid as Contender said & Hvymax I never said anything about my "pretty gun ", I just said what kind of 10/22 it was since a regular stocked gun would have this issue.
I admit I bought this mostly cuz it's the only one I've ever seen, not for group shooting. For that I have 2 other 10/22's with Kidd triggers & bolts, 1 with a Kidd barrel & a Green Mtn barrel on the other. Both of these have custom thumbhole stocks made by Larry Jennings. If you're not familiar with his work check him out on Rimfire Central under 10/22 stocks - making & modifying. He does beautiful work. I promise, after I learn how to post pics I'l put some on here of my International & the other 2 I just mentioned.
Speaking of that, can anyone tell me how to do that with my phone? It's an Android phone & all my pics are on it. Keep it simple please cuz I'm not well versed in things like this. Thanks

P.S. I will update this post as I progress (or not) 😁

When you say 'not impressive', what kind of group did it shoot? Were you able to zero it?

This is my blued version of what you have described. At 50 yards it's capable of 2 inch groups depending on what ammunition I'm using that day. I use it for a plinker plus a 25 to 30 yard squirrel rifle. YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary)
