Or are the grip panels too small?

Maybe the edges just need to be broken over a bit more aggressively. At the corner and along the bottom edge the dang things approach being sharp. Being as how it's my gun and I can do what I want, I'm thinking a few minutes with a stone is called for.

Or, should I look for grip panels that fit better? I could see a case where removing metal could cause new panels that are just a bit longer would not have the benefit of support.

Along the bottom there is my concern, this as good a picture as I could get loaded .

Yours are a far better fit than many. But yes, this has been an issue, the grip panels being too small for the grip frame. When I dig into my old stash of grips, I can easily find grips that fit nearly perfect. So I do not believe it's an oversize grip frame, but the newer suppliers of grips for Ruger are just small, whatever their excuses might be, and whatever excuses are made even on this forum. ;)

I ordered a set of simulated ivory panel grips for my Redhawk 357 8 round revolver. Terrible fit, into the trash they went. I like the shape and look of the stock grips, I just wanted to see some ivory grips on it, I satisfied my curiosity.

Ruger grip fitment (or lack of it) doesn't bother me at all. To date it's only my eyes that object to them but if I had a set that became uncomfortable I'd have Chig's solve it for me.

As noted above,, your issue isn't a new one. Ever since the company that used to make the grips for Ruger,, (Lett) closed,, the following companies have failed to make grip panels that actually fit. Bisley grip frames are worse than the plow handled ones too.

The grips on your gun are aftermarket. And as noted,, those fit better than many factory ones. I PERSONALLY would not try filing the gripframe or modifying it in any way. I'd opt for a different set of grips. And if ivory like is your desires,, then look hard as "American Holly" wood as a great alternative to plastic or whatever. They will even age gently like ivory does.

Kinda bummed to hear Altimont is poor solution. A friend from HS worked there for some time.

I'm not exactly mad at the Hogues it's currently wearing. Like I said it's the sharp corners that need addressing. The rest is more cosmetic. I believe I'll round those over a bit. The bright finish will not be winking at me like blue would.
