Problem with Safety on Charger

I discovered what I consider a serious problem with my Charger this morning while letting my 8 year old niece and 63 year old sister in law do some target shooting at my gun club.

I had put in a new mag, chambered a round and my sister in law was fixing to shoot and I realized the safety was still on... so I reached over and flipped the safety off for her... the gun went off. I thought she must have had her finger on the trigger and was pulling while I flipped it off, but she said not... but her not being familier with guns I figured she was wrong.... she went ahead and emptied the mag and then I reloaded and chambered a round... flipped the safety on and pulled the trigger... nothing happens then I pushed the safety off and the gun went off!....

I have changed out the sear and spring on the thing, can't remember if I did the hammer or not....

Any thoughts other than send it back to Ruger?

Yep, or some thing in there. I've take the trigger group apart on these critters (charger and 10/22) a couple of times to put new after market parts in... but did my best to not analize how they actually all work. I can over think a problem to death.

I do have to say So far I have not 'got into' shooting the charger... but my niece and sister - in - law loved it. I've got a really cheap red dot scope (1x power) on it and they had a great time.... and really did well... shooting 1-2" groups at 50 ft.

I had taken my niece two days before but the guns I brought were just way too big for her. She could not even hold a single six steady. two 22 rifles I brought were too big even resting on the bench... an old geezer loaned us a little Marlin rifle that made her happy though.

when we went back the Charger was the ticket though.

I put the original hammer back in and it solved the problem.... it looks to me like the trigger and sear (thingy over the hammer) move too much when the safety button is on. it keeps the hammer from falling but moves it enough that when the safety is moved to off the hammer falls.

I compared it to one of the other trigger groups on a 10/22 and there is practically no movement of the trigger when the safety is on on this one.
