The work looked well executed, I like Mannlichers and the chambering seemed ideal for the rifle and the price seemed right. I bought not knowing the builder. I brought it home and found it has a pretty neat "history".

If I had commissioned that rifle, the only difference would have have been the cartridge. Mine would have been a 7x57 Mauser. Seriously, a beautiful rifle.

Wow!! It doesn’t get much better than that.
Goens did some beautiful work, and had some nice wood to work with on that one. The action, the chambering, the stock, the scope…. What a great package!!

Quite a few years ago I happened on one inadvertantly...built on a 1909 Mauser action. Beautiful work on wood and metal. It didn't have the beautiful figured wood...but it was nice really hard walnut 24 LPI checkering. Unfortunately, I was talked out of it.
That is so classic both in appearance and caliber choice, if I had seen I could not have passed it up. Congratulations

Classic American rifle stocked by a master, awesome caliber. If you reload, I have some bullets you need - classic 160 grain roundnose. I shoot them in my 6.5 Rem. Mag 660 carbine for woods hunting. I have several boxes of them.
I have a Goens 280 built on a pre war model 70. I had him build it in the late 80's and have never fired it. A lot of his medal work was done by Bedeaux in Albuquerque. You have a beautiful example of his work.
