Prehistoric canoe found in US lake

I find stories like this very interesting. Carbon dated to about 2500 BC!

Radiocarbon dating found that the oldest canoe dates back to 2500 B.C., which would mean it was built around the time Stonehenge was constructed. The canoe was constructed more than 1,700 years before Ancient Rome was first settled and 2,500 years before the birth of Jesus Christ.

Very cool. Kind of perfect that it was discovered in Wisconsin since the Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison is renowned for its school of limnology.

Gotta wonder how many have been burned up by people that just didn't know what they were. Over the years, I'm sure that more of those have been "caught" and retrieved by anglers, washed up on shore from storms/weather, etc.

Many of our ancestors even here earlier. So far, the Olmecs from around southern Mexico. They were before the Mayans and Toltecs...

I dont recall how old it was, but they have discovered an ancient dugout canoe in a Florida river.

To stray from the point slightly, many remnants of boats are found in Arkansas fields, far from the river. The Mississippi River has meandandered from the bluffs at Memphis to Crowley's ridge in Arkansas. At Ft. Pillow, when standing on a bluff, it is noted that the river stood at the foot of the bluff in 1863, is now more than a mile away. What was a lake at one tme might be a plain now, and vice versa.
