Wayne, the thing to do is be proud and honored that you had the opportunity to know him.
Your legion will I'm sure keep his memory and service to our country alive.
You are so correct.
Dick and I got along very well, and we talked a lot. Actually, he got along well and talked a lot with everybody.
I will remember him always, and even before he passed, I cherished the fact that he and I sat together, drank together, sang together, and talked much.
I am proud, honored, and thankful that a portion of his life was spent with me. And he was so good for other Veteran's.
Recently, I mentioned his Corvette duty in the North Atlantic. He told me in no uncertain terms he was not a ***-darn Canuck! He served on a Destroyer!
When a person is approaching a hundred years old, it's reasonable that life has moved them around. I know he was originally from New York. His last 10-or-so years was spent near us in Mt. Angel and Salem Oregon, and now his funeral is in Sequim Washington.
Thanks again everybody for your well wishes and Prayers.
Wayne.
