You know it is really easy to tell direction out here on the prairie. There really are no topography features to speak of except the Black Hills. So If the trees all lean to your right, you are facing west. If they lean to your left, you are facing east. And so on. The wind is mostly from the south throughout the growing season, so they lean to the north. In winter, they are frozen so they stay the same even tho the wind may blow mightely (is that a word?). Easy, peasy to tell direction.
