I am aware of the Alliant powders that are recognizable by the color flakes, red dot, bludot, green dot...did the ever have a powder that had a light brown or tan dot shotgun powder?

I do not know what the powder shown is. Clay dot has tan towards orange dots in it. If it is a 12 gauge reloader it might well be Clay Dot. If a 20 gauge reloader I guess Unique is more likely.

Obviously discard it, whatever.

I was given some reloads from an unknown source several years ago. I pulled them apart for the components. The powder had yellow dots in it. I never did figure out what brand of powder that was.

yellow means made in canada. white means usa.
find a load for your gun...pick the lowest load (or lower) and work your way up to what you normally use.
how much ya got? a full small mec cannister? if so.....youre looking at 35.00 worth of powder.
your call.
is it worth it?

Yep load it lite like one of the fast powders preferably in a .38 shell lite load. Then Chrono it and compare to published data. Step it up to say 850 fps and compare to data for some of the suggested powder and you'll figure it out. It's not like someone had something unsafe like flash powder or blank powder in a shotgun loader. The old books and writers safely did this a lot over the years. Or if you don't want to experiment throw it out. Your call.

If you live out in the country, aways from anyone else, One way to dispose of all powder is to fill up a prescription bottle and drill a hole in the top of the cap, wrapped with white medical tape and a cannon fuse stuck thru the cap. Good for fishing in the local ponds.
