People don't bother looking most the time at the stickys. They want an answer yet rather than actually do some homework on their own, look around, search, etc, it's just "aw heck, i'll just ask" instead.

I'd ask the mods to omit non-reference posts to keep the topic drift and blather to a minimum, and keep the technical & historic info posts on-topic.
