"new American"
Ever been to a citizen swearing in ceremony ? It's disgraceful ! Most need interpreters and most don't even know what State they are living in, and most don't even want to be in America, but the freebies are attractive. I once lived in a city that had a separate welfare office just for the migrants most from the South African continent. All brought over through Amnesty International in cahoots with Catholic charities.
My grandparents were immigrants and became citizens and they had to know something about our Constitution as well as know some English and be able to sign their name in it. And they would not allow my mother to speak anything other than English in front of us kids. And no displays outside the home. They wanted full and complete assimilation into the American way.
The people coming over the last 50 odd years are not the immigrants of yesteryear and offer very little and in most cases their own countries can't wait to get rid of them.
