New to the forum, so this may have been discussed before; I used the search, with no helpful results, so here goes:

One of the biggest complaints that I've read about the P95 is the long heavy trigger... Is there not anything that can be done to help this?

I've only owned my P95 for a few days now, and really have no complaints, so to speak, but I can say that I'm not really crazy about the DA trigger pull, nor the "slack" that's in the trigger in SA...

Not that I'm dying to have my P95 modified, but just curious about this as I've noticed this "trigger problem" as the biggest/most occuring complaint about the P95, at least in internet forums... After reading the thread about the Ghost trigger for the SR9, I became curious about the P95 trigger...

Thanks in advance.

my p95 has no slack in single action... As for the double action long pull, well, I would say thats really a safety feature for the deckocker only versions and also because even with the manual safety versions you cant keep the gun "cocked and locked". The longer trigger pull is nice you can keep a round in the chamber, without too much worry about accidental discharge..... In any case, I dont really find it much worse than other double action guns I have used, you have to remember that in double action it has to cock back the hammer, which is why its harder to pull that in single action, where it simply releases the hammer.......

I agree, I really can't find anything wrong with the pistols trigger pull... now if I was shooting off of a rest at a target 50 yards down range and trying to slowly squeeze the trigger in single action like in target rifle shooting... the trigger would awful. but for how I shoot the pistol... first round double action and then the rest in single as fast as I can acquire the target... the trigger seems to be just fine.

I've had a 19lb wolf spring sitting on my gun bench for over 6 months now and have yet to install it.

While you can certainly try the 19 lb hammer spring to lighten the DA pull (as long as it doesn't create a problem with light primer strikes), there is no fix for the "slack" in the SA pull to the best of my knowledge. I would recommend putting at least 500 rounds or so through it before you make any change. IMHO, once I got used to the trigger, it really became a non-issue.

After a couple thousand rounds fired the trigger seems much better on the DA pull than it does when the P95 is new.

Thanks for all the response!

I've owned 3 P series Rugers since 1993 and have nothing but good things to say about them...that's why I bought the P95 I have now...

I have just been reading the web and it sounds like a broken record with the P series; fat, ugly, chunky...etc., but never a derogatory remark about the reliability or accuracy of the P series...except for some complaints about the trigger... I just thought if others were doing "trigger jobs" on other brands and companies were making aftermarket trigger parts for other brands, why not the P series? Just thinking that with the P series reliability and accuracy, that coupled with a good trigger, it would be the "perfect" machine...at least in my eyes...

Please bear in mind, I'm not a gun guru...collector..etc. I just like guns and like to shoot, like to talk guns...that's about it... I live in the mountains, so I don't have to travel to a shooting range to shoot...(Don't even know where the closest range is) I can pretty much just step out my front door and let the lead fly without worry...so I can get as much trigger time as I want...only limited on my finances to buy ammo!

I'll be taking a CCW class before much longer and I'll probably carry the P95 some, I see an LCP in my near future!

Thanks again guys, this is a great forum!

Imho, the trigger on the p95 is a good trigger. The gun is only combat accurate anyway. The double action pull is meant to be heavier and longer. The single action pull is quite decent!

NC-P95, There are very few handguns that can't be improved "some" by judicious "cleaning/smoothing" of contact points (metal to metal) and a drop of oil to reduce "friction". I usually "study" the parts interaction to try and determine if the "improvement" is "worth" the work. In some cases it is and in some it isn't. With the Ruger P-Series, I usually don't recommend doing anything until you have given the pistol a good break-in, at least 250 to 300 rounds through it. What are you "feeling" in the trigger compared to what you started out with determines your next "move"! Some guns have a remarkable improvement just going the lighter spring route while others need the "full" treatment...........................Dick
