I'm having a couple issues with my new P95, i purchased it new from a local gun shop and went straight to their range, i tried to put 50 rounds of Independence down range and it kept jamming, FTF and FTE. I attributed it to it being a new gun and having factory lube on it. Took it home, cleaned it. Brought it back to the range with winchester white box and federal ammo and had similar issues just not nearly as ofter. At about the 100 round count the mag started to drop out of the bottom of the gun after each shot. Several people tried shooting the gun with the same result. What the heck is going on? Why am i having these FTF, FTE, and mag drop issues. I am not limp wristing it, one of the "testers" was a very experienced shooter and he was having same issues I was.[/b]

failure to feed and failure to extract? Can you hand cycle rounds through the gun real easy? How tight is your extractor? Remove the slide and push extractor to check the tension. I had failure to extract from a weak extractor. I had a few problems with my p95 when it was new also.

Hate to say it but I think you need to ship it to Ruger. I would ask the folks that you bought the gun from to help you out with this, they owe you this much at least. Not really a big deal, call Ruger, explain the problem... I suspect they will send a UPS call tag for the package and or you just ship it to them... they fix it and send it back.

In general, is the p95 known for having more issues than the p89 or p90?
I was holding a 95, and it of course did not have the 89's heft, and it had that stupid metal plate sticking off the side of the grips.
I Did not like it cosmetically as much as the 89, but what about function?

everything i've read has said the gun is a garbage disposal, will eat up anything you throw at it, goes bang every time you pull the trigger, i had some hickups with mine, but Ruger has sorted out the problems. If its any reassurance, the day after i sent mine in to Ruger I convinced a friend to purchase one.

It isn't that the P95 has more issues than any other of their older models but that there are 2 that seem to be quite common. The first is that mag drop issue which just requires a mag release spring change. The second is that the collar which keeps the springs captured comes off. It does not affect function at all but just means you have to make sure you don't lose the springs.

The P89 was just an updated P85. The former had a few fixes that were needed on the latter--think of it as the improved version.

The P89 uses the older swinging link system while the P95 uses the cam system.
