For the last couple weeks I have been thinking about getting some kind of .45 to replace my 9mm as my primary carry weapon. I have asked a bunch of my buddies who are cops and they of course all suggest a glock. Today I shot one of them and as nice as it was I just don't have $600-$700 laying around to get one. Another friend of mine has a p90 he just got from his dad for xmas and I LOVED it. I have to get one of these any info anyone has would be appreciated and how much do they cost roughly? New? Used?

Thanks

JB

Price might depend on where you are at I have seen them used from anywhere around $350-$450. I would definitely shop around before purchasing. You might also want to consider the P-97 or P-345.

+1 on the 97 or P345, I have a P345 and really like it, and I would love to someday add a P97 DAO.

But I agree that that is way too high for a Glock and if it is a glock you love you can find them for 475-525 brandy new.

I didn't notice the Glock price you listed jbender. Charger is right a brand new in the box Glock should run right around 500. You might need to do some price shopping.

I have both the 97's and 345. I also have a kp90dc and it is my choice of all three for a carry weapon. Bigger, heavier, but to me well worth the extra effort to carry it. The others are good guns, but the 90 is my choice.

The P-90 handles and shoots beautifully. I find it as easy to shoot as my MkIII. Don't be put off by its size. I call mine "the fat lady". If she ever sings, it will all be over quickly.

I'm very fond of my P-90's. I have two and they are getting shot more often than any of my other autos. They are accurate, reliable and the recoil appears to be less than in my Colt Government Model even though the Ruger is a lighter pistol. Ruger just had their annual price increase and dealer on the P-90 is right at $400 with the KP-90 around $430. I picked up a spare slide and am trying to decide between night sights, fibre optics or adjustables to go on it. You can't go wrong with a P-90.
Best Regards,

Absolutely dependable pistol. Here's my PP90DC (Decocker) after an extended range session. It cleans up nicely and has functioned flawlessly and accurately with any ammunition type I've used in it.

I once owned one of the these ugly S.O.B s and I should also add that my P-90 was the most accurate .45 Cal. semiauto I have ever fired right from the box! To this day, I am besott with regret that I ever sold the damn thing. I just might be tempted into another one, maybe one in blue this time. The P-90 is one hell of a performer :!:

I don't know the current prices of a P90 but FWIW, I had a hard time choosing between the P90 and the P97. Since I was looking strictly for a carry gun I finally chose the P97 since it was a tad slimmer and easier to conceal(for me). For all around use though, a P90 is hard to beat and it's still being made. :)

My favorite is the KP97D. Even though I´m on the same mind as many other members here, that the P90 and the P345 are outstanding good .45 pistols. The "decock only" models I prefere pricipally due to their fool-proof handling. In a self-defence situation I need not to think: is it switched on or off? In such a panic-situation the human brain is working only with emergency programe and can execute only simple actions. A DC-model is "switched on" every time like a Glock. Also this is a reason why Glock pistols are so popular. Pull the trigger - bang. Nothing else. But it is only my personal opinion.

It seems that most people when given the choice prefer the decock only Ruger P series. Why then did the brains at Ruger discontinue there production? Was it because the overall sales numbers showed them to be unpopular or was there some perceived liability with the design?

Since they stopped making Decockers in all the models I suspect it was a liability issue with them not having a safety.

I'm not sure what the problem is that some have with the safety on the P series. I have both but would actually prefer the safety since one can chamber a rd with the safety on. Since the safety is used to decock the pistol, all a person has to do is shove it up to the fire position and then go on about their business. No need to carry a DA/SA pistol with the safety on. As far as wondering whether or not the Safety is on, putting it in the fire position to me is something done each time without thinking but I seem to be in the minority here :)

What I don't understand is, some that is afraid to carry a Semi-Auto Decocker without the safety on, will carry a double-action Revolver. I'd like to know what the difference is.

I like to read good things about the P90 this is my 1st Ruger and I was worried when I could not find any reviews on it from Guns & Ammo or anything on the net to amount to anything. I saw this forum and glad I did. I traded a Glock 32 and $50 for the Ruger P90 but have not had a chance to shoot it yet. I went to a gun show over the weekend and was surprised to see that Ruger was not a gun of popularity I was asking around to see if price I got was good cause I have not bought a pistol in many years so I was just wondering. I was told by one of the dealers that Ruger was not what it used to be and it has gone down hill lately and there guns and quality has gone down hill the past few years.

I am so glad I ran into this website cause I really feel good now after reading this post. I know that this is a Ruger forum and nobody it going to cut them down on here but I am sure you are honest about the performance of the pistol.

Jammer 45, you will find several postings about dropping QC in Ruger plants. This is often a big subject here. Before buying a used or even a new gun it is important to check it carefully. There are enough guns on the free market to find the right one.

I think you will find the P-series Autos the same as the Blackhawk series of Revolvers. They will eventually be recognized as the best Ruger has produced. There are sacrifices made to have the latest and greatest plastics. Small and light weight is nice, but shooting the guns are not the same as the larger heavier ones. The difference is noticeable in the recoil, which affects accuracy, and the enjoyment of shooting.

None.
I have a KP-90DC and a Brasilian-purchase 1917 S&W. They chamber the same round, and function alike. The S&W gets the nod for smoother trigger, but the Ruger carries 2 or 3 more rounds and seems to be a bit more accurate. A cylinder full of shiny hollowpoints may make the revolver more intimidating head-on, but the big auto with the big hole up front is an attention-getter, too.
