Should I be concerned with the wearing showing on my P90 guide rod? It has only been fired maybe 300 rounds.

Are you lubing the guide rod and recoil spring? My suggestion would be to make sure you are lubing it well, and then recheck after another couple hundred rounds to see how much more wear has been induced. Maybe a new guide rod "may" be needed, but only if you see a lot of new wear after running it some more.

I have seen some P series guide rods look pretty rough, but they still function.

Just my opinion, and take that for what it cost you to read. ;)

I'll check my spring although my guide rod looks to be the same diameter on either end so wondering why the spring would be tighter at one end or the other?

They wind the spring a bit narrower at one end. This is one way of retaining it better when disassembling (least likely answer), but there will be a correct engineering answer for it. I have seen recoil springs like this, I just know that it retains better on the guide rod, and allows the spring to work better on the muzzle end if it isn't put on backwards.
