In this thread we"re discussing two separate things . velocity and accuracy .
Varies from brand to brand, and lot to lot , but non hyper .22lr reaches max velocity at very close to 16 in .
Accuracy is a factor of the bbl quality , and particularly the chamber . The common SAAMI " Sporting " chamber is very generous .
With metallic sights , more sight radius is more better , with optics it's moot .
For offhand or field shooting positions , balance is important , but that's both subjective , and at least as much a factor of bbl contours as length per se .
Even if testing by shortening the same bbl , their are still variables of the squareness of each cut , and the quality of each crown .
