Suggestions please for my M-77 International in 30-06 for scope. Great gun with a great trigger.
Thanks all. :D
I wouldn't go any bigger than a 3x9 40mm scope.

I put a Leupold illuminated VX3 1.5-5x 20mm on my 308 Hawkeye RSI. Had to get 30mm rings, called Ruger and they exchanged my 1" for the 30s, N/C.

Here is my M77 RSI in .243 with Burris 3X-9X Full Field II and standard Ruger rings. I have found this to be a great shooter. I am trying to save up some cash for a 308. You have got to love the RSI.

I tend to agree with the popular reply here...not really a need to go any bigger than a 3-9 or 3-10. Anything in that range will be plenty of scope. I am a fan of the scopes in the lower power ranges for a rifle like yours. A nice 1.5-6 or 2-7 would fit that gun nicely and I think those scopes are easier to "pick up" the crosshairs on a quick shot like a running target.

I have 2 RSI's in 308 and both are scoped, and I agree a good 2 X 7 or 3 X 9 power scope is all you should need for a good hunting setup. Buckeye Bill you have one great looking RSI set . Hey just my 2 cents worth on this and thanks all for your time, Gary. :)

A lower-powered scope, mounted in low rings, would serve you well. A nice 4X or 6X Leupold would be ideal. Fixed-power scopes are simpler, have better optics and field of view, and are cheaper. I have a straight 6X on my 30-06 and it has all the power I need.

+1 for OIF2 I have a 4x leupold on my 243. If I planned to use it for long range varmint shooting I would probably have gone 2x7 or 3x9 , but if that was my intended purpose I probably wouldn't have chosen a 243 carbine.

I have a Vortex Diamondback model 2-7x35 and I really like the larger field of view compare to a 3-9x40.

I do not have a picture but the Leupold 2-7X VXII is ideal both in performance and looks on my son's 243.
That would be my first choice as well, with the matte finish matching the Hawkeye's.

I have the older Vari-XIIc 2x7 on my No. 1 RSI and think it makes for a fairly useful package.

Second choice would be a VX-II 3x9, but only if NOBODY had a 2x7 available.

I put the Ultralite Leupold 2.5x on both my RSI's, one 308MKII and the other Hawkeye in '06. For my area and terrain they will work just fine for me and frankly did not want to add anymore bulk/weight to the RSI type rifles and keep as low a profile as possible. Also have used one of these on my Ruger NO. 1 in 458Lott and that will definitely test the durability of the optics(and the trigger puller!)

I think the 2 to 7 is a great choice, I happened to have a Nikon Prostaff shotgun scope laying around and use that on mine. Tons of eye relief and parallax is set at 75 yds, other than that works the same as a rifle scope.

BTW, Burris 3 to 9 X 32 is on sale at SWFA for about $110.00. It's small, I got one for my Mini but it would probably work great on the 77.

I have a M77 MkII in .243 with a 1-5x20mm VX-III in gloss on it and love it. It gives it a real euro look. Wide field of view on a nice compact rifle. That is my choice.

I have Leupold, Burris, Bushnell, Nikon, and Nightforce variables from 2-7 to 4-16 mounted on various rifles. If I had to do it all over again almost all of those would be replaced with Weaver 4x or on longer range stuff 6x fixed scopes. I have a RSI in 308 that wears a fixed 4x (when I'm not using the NECG apertiure sight which is a ton of fun and I highly recommend on any rifle w/ irons).

After reading this thread, I just picked up a Nikon fixed 4x40 to mount on my M-77 in .308 this week. Of course, I'm still paying off the rifle...

I'm excited to get it mounted. Will post pics when I do.
