These blind screw carved eagle grips were on a flattop I recently acquired. What do you think? Are they ivory or some man-made material?

They seem to have "grain" like ivory and minor color variations. They also appear to be hand-fitted at the top, the frame cutouts on the two panels are not symmetric.

I couldn't find anything exactly like them in an online search. Closest I came to them were these. There were others with eagles with shields but not this same pattern.

Rough, quick and dirty....take a pin and heat it red hot and
touch it to the backside, maybe down in the locating pin hole.
Plastic melts, ivory will char.
Bone I'm not sure.

Hi they are neat I would not think ivory would have a crossed pattern on the heel like they do did you try the hot pin test on the inside to see if the grip melts at the touch of the pin if plastic it will melt I am certainly not an expert but have been told that is how to test for plastic to me I would think some kind of bone

I couldn't find a pin. Thought I was going to have to wait until Christmas and hope I got a dress shirt. I have some pins in a 35mm film can (remember those? remember film?) somewhere, but no idea where. I saved them from dress shirts of Christmas past. Oh, so then I started looking for a needle. Sewing is not my superpower. Finally remembered a cheesy emergency sewing kit I swiped from some hotel years ago, and managed to find that, still in my travel bag.

Anyway... Splitz called it - they passed the hot needle test!

No hole, no smoke, no smell, nothing.

I'd say they are elephant ivory grips. You can see the "Schreger lines."

Be careful if you try to sell those. They could be confiscated.

You would be safe if they are sold on a firearm and meet the minimus exception.

Perhaps. Some States have their own rules in addition to the Federal. de minimus means <200grams (a little over 7oz. ) among other criteria. I'd want some other legit documentation also, as mentioned at the link.

Personally, I wouldn't sell them, but might put them in my will along with the revolver.
