One Shot Cylinder For Ruger Old Army

Help Support Ruger Forum:

I would ~guess~ that it's a single-shot adapter for hunting during a special muzzleloading season? 💡

In MN, a percussion revolver isn't a legal arm for taking deer during our special muzzleloader season, anyway. For starters… it doesn't load through the muzzle! 🤪

I believe you could use a muzzleloading "double rifle" here, though… 🤔

It seems like each year there's discussion surrounding what does or doesn't meet the requirements for our muzzleloader season, especially with equipment innovations. Think: CVA Electra, FireStick muzzleloaders, etc.

I looked closer & found the instructions, that answers my questions on indexing & lockup.

Not something I want or need.

Interesting item. I suppose that there is a specific need or reason for the 'one shot' but I cannot understand what it would be.
One thing is for certain, with that cylinder you never have to worry about flash over chain fires! :)

I still have the metallic cartridge cylinder from my Old Army which I stupidly sold years ago. Looking at the prices of them, whew!

I agree the one shot is likely for hunting and staying on the right side of Joe Pickett.

There was a cartoon character who had a one shot revolver. Benny Farboil or something like that. Then there's the real world Ruger 256 which was essentially a one shot revolver.

same thing here in WI

What a strange thing to make. I wonder why they didn't make it flat? It would look like a Hawkeye! 😂

"Then there's the real world Ruger 256 which was essentially a one shot revolver."

While the Hawkeye has the main shape of the Blackhawk,, the breech block doesn't rotate completely. It opens slightly to allow the loading of the round into the chamber, which is part of the barrel. So, it's not a revolver.

I've seen a photo of a custom one-hole cylinder made to satisfy a legal requirement in one of the European countries.

Might also be meant for some sort of hunting rule.
