Up for consideration is a very nice early OM 45 Colt with the 7.5" barrel. This one has had some custom work done to it with a steel NM XR3-RED grip frame, a Super Blackhawk hammer, and target trigger. It still boasts its factory parts so no transfer bar conversion. Action is very crisp and light. I don't have a trigger gauge so I can only say it's very light. I purchased it with the plan of converting it back to its original configuration given its early serial number but it's just too nice to mess with. It has a light turn ring on the cylinder but otherwise is in very good condition.

PENDING $825 shipped. As always, a posted "I'll take it" has priority over a PM message for time stamp. No electronic payments but a personal check is accepted for long standing forum members. I can also hand deliver this to anyone coming to the Ruger Display show in Nampa Idaho the weekend of Jan 4-5, 2025, and save you the shipping cost.

Very nice …. Early 1st year production and only made 3 or 4 years I think

Uhh,, I think he & I may have a deal on that one going on.

This was one of Carl's personal guns so I'm happy to say Tyrone and I worked out a deal so it could be part of his display. I had forgotten that was where it came from until I was looking for a letter for a different gun and stumbled across this gem. I should have charged him a premium for it.

Oh, I didn't realize it was a Karl Kustom, that makes a huge difference as far as desirability. I'll bet it shoots great.

If you look closely, you can see that the trigger is from a conversion kit with the hump on the back. Carl was fond of unconverting OMs with whatever parts he could cobble together and would take a hacksaw to the conversion kit triggers to lop off the transfer bar link, at which point they function just like an OM trigger except they have that unique profile. Does the base pin have the NM plunger? If so, it was probably also from the same kit, along with the pawl, trigger return spring, and cylinder latch spring. The hammer is obviously from a Super, and the grips are from a NM. Carl was also a fan of the steel grip frames. I think I remember him showing this one on the forum from time to time along with the story of how it came to be.

Neat piece of history if you knew Carl (y)

I checked Carl's list of guns, and it notes this one as having a non-factory brass grip frame, so I guess the steel one was swapped on later. It also says there is a pic on RF showing it with a SBH hammer, so that checks. Sadly, Carl's pics are all gone from the hosting server he used. I did save some of his pics on my computer, and I think this is the pic in question, where this gun is the OM on top:
