This recent thread started a dangerous process with me, euphemistically known as "thinking"...

Is there such a thing as a factory "old model" Bisley, or was that style only introduced after the New Models came out?

Failing that (or if they are extremely rare and expensive), what can I reasonably expect to pay for an unconverted OM, say 4-3/4" .45 Colt?

Did they ever do a 4-3/4" .44 mag? Preferably without the dragoon trigger guard?

To add something to your thoughts, I believe it's Dave Clements that occasionally has Bilsey style hammers that will work on OM's. Some TLC to the grip frame and it's do-able. Only factor is $.

I have never been able to find a 4 5/8" Old Model that I could afford as a shooter. Got two in 7 1/2", ones a converable. Of course that is here in Wyoming where all the good ones are in Flatgates safe already.

Using Flatgates mod a bisley grip frame could be made to work. Me I like to add the Dragoon frame.

Nope on the Bisley.
Yes the NM 4 5/8"and 5 1/2" are a standard steel frame
A 45 Colt with a 4 5/8 barrel SHOOTER will go for $500 to $600 maybe less depends on condition
These were all less than $550 The two 4/58" are convertibles. The one with the brass frame letters as a Convertible. not a brassie.

Not as an Old Model. Standard Grip frame 44 old models are all Flat tops and are either 6.5, 7.5 or 10 inchers. At least to my knowledge.

Howdy Sam! All my old model guns wear David's bisley spurred hammers. Those with regular frames have his normal sized hammer with the bisley spur and the bisleyized old models wear his bisley framed/spurred hammers and triggers like shown above. Last time I ordered from David they were $150 per hammer and $50 or $75 for the bisley trigger. He only builds them a couple of times a year, if that, so you would need to call him and get added to the list. Here is his regular framed bisley spurred hammer on an OM 41 and a full bisley set on an OM 44 Special.

If you have an OM gun, you can get a Power Custom #5 Grip frame, Bisley hammer, etc.

I like the feel of the #5 better than the Bisley...and I REALLY like Bisleys.

I getcha. Thanks for the tips.

I'm thinking I could live with another 5-1/2" or 7-1/2" gun, if I had too... It'll be a range gun, not a carry piece, so the length isn't that important. I don't currently have a 4-3/4", and figured I'd try to kill two birds with one stone. We'll see how that works out. Thanks again!

.44 mag on top, .45 Colt on the bottom
I had Ruger rebarrel the .44 for me quite a few years ago. The .45 came out of a "consignment" sale from a mid-Wyoming gun shop. I added "non-standard" hammers and brass grip frames to both Blackhawks.

Those 4-5/8" OM .45's are rather scarce with perhaps 7,000 of them being produced in the very early 1970's. Scarce = Big $

I bought these .45's unfired. Both have maybe30-50 rounds through them now. Mostly for looks. Great guns. These things run in the $800 or higher range these days in collector condition

Homeboy Old Model Bisley hammer?

Lop off the top of a OM Single-Six hammer and weld on the top off of a NM Bisley Blackhawk hammer....

It needs some "finish" work, but, you get the idea.....
