When did they put the safety's on them? I picked one up without the safety. Is there somewhere to check serial numbers?
That's a very desirable rifle, would you be willing to share what you paid for it?AFAIK The cross bolt safety was added in 1984 and even worse the rebounding hammer was added about the same time.
You have a nice rifle.
Not sure why you asked me about mine? But I paid $750 for mine. That's a very desirable rifle, would you be willing to share what you paid for it?

JM Marlin .44 mag
I found a really nice condition JM stamped Marlin 1894 lever action. No safety. A Williams Receiver rear and fiber optic front sights. $750. Are the new Ruger Marlins hurting the value on these older guns? Does the Williams sight hurt its value? I assume it had to be drilled and tapped...www.rugerforum.com
Ok, this is "asking" price, but let's see if it makes minimum...Bad B, Six hundred. I thought that was a good price. Very clean.
Wow, that is a great price for a pre-safety one. Asking prices at local gun shows are DOUBLE what you paid, even for cross bolt ones. But, they don't seem to be selling many at that price. You got a great deal. I just picked up a very clean Cowboy Limited .357 JM but it was over $250 more than yours...but which is still far below ridiculous gun show prices. It was my first Marlin .357 JM lever rifle and it's a keeper. They're not making any more of the Cowboy Limited models so that's another reason I picked it up.Bad B, Six hundred. I'm sure many here would offer you double what you paid for it...but I'll be the first in line, OK?I paid $225 for mine. (1992)
Funny thing about my ownership of this rifle. In 2000 I sold it to a friend, who was looking for a deer rifle for his 13 year old son, for $325. Then in 2015 I got curious about it and asked him if he still had it. It turns out his son used it for two years and then bought his own rifle. I asked if he wanted to sell it. I bought it back for the $325 he haisd paid me.I'm sure many here would offer you double what you paid for it...but I'll be the first in line, OK?
Wow, cool story! That's a good friend to sell it BACK to you 15 years later for the same price he paid for it.Funny thing about my ownership of this rifle. OK, seriously now....I'll still offer you double your $325 .... $650...and If Ilive longer than 15 years you can buy it back for the same price! C'mon, help a friend out....LOL
But really seriously now...keep that one buried in your safe and don't let it go AGAIN!
