Old movies both black and white and color films

I think it's less about age and more about what you've been exposed to. I am in my early 30's and mostly watch old films, 1910's-1970's. Theres so much good stuff out there!

Earlier this evening I was talking to someone in his early 30's at work. I told him I watched a couple of black and white film noir movies last night and he told me that he would never watch a black and white film.
He also did not believe that Gone With The Wind and The Wizard of Oz were made in 1939 because he knows there were no color movies at that time. He claims that any movie in black and white is dull with no imagination.
I guess the world started when he came into it because nothing of any importance could have happened before he was born.
1939 Was a Golden year for movies, color or B&W!

I'd rather watch an old movie in B&W than watch a crappy colorized version. Maybe the colorizing is better now but give me the original. Color movies usually are visually more appealing. I wonder at some point the kids will be saying they can't watch a 2D movie when 3D holographic movies are the norm. Probably 😉

As a kid I remember watching a ton of Victory at Sea TV. And the music was terrific. It's surprising how many Best Picture Oscars were awarded to B&W film after color was introduced.

The first time I watched the series was at home when Dad brought a stack of 16mm reels and projector home in late 1950 or early1951(I was 6 or 7yo) before they were released to theaters and TV. He was career Navy and fought in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters of WWII on a cruiser (USS Astoria, CA-34) that was sunk in Iron Bottom Sound (Guadalcanal), then a destroyer escorting convoys to Europe till the end of the war. I vaguely recall my mother had a fit about it because she thought it was too bloody for a kid my age. I thought it was great!

As we speak, I am watching In Harms Way. I don't notice any absence of color, and I can't imagine it with color.

Remember when WE were young and stupid...?
It helps when trying to understand, or communicate with them...
It also helps the communication process if you were a wool beanie hat or hoodie indoors....

Agreed if it was a youngin who was family but a 30+ year old from work? I wouldn't even try to communicate other than just laugh a bit. Lifes to short to waste time on that.

If he doesn't think they are serious have him watch QB 7. He may find out how easy he is to convince. If he can't find it it is Queens Bench no 7 by Leon Uris.
