Snatched up an Old Model Super Blackhawk sn# 9423 today. It's a high -polish with Micro marked rear sight, non-fluted cylinder and Eagle barrel. Downside are the ugly (and broken) Herters traget grips. There is normal wear on the left side of the muzzle, front of EHR and front edge of the cylinder

The gun has definetly been shot and enjoyed but well taken care of. AND, the icing on the cake is the plum loading gate. If gun stores ever came up with a plum spray paint to use on their guns I'd probably buy every one I saw. On the way to the poorhouse.

Really a neat gun that probably falls in the nice shooter catagory. RENE labels guns in this sn# range as "about 1850 made. Scarce".

All in all a good day. First Old Model Super, 84 degrees, and meeting up with Hashknife Hartley tomorrow morning. Yup, life is pretty darn good

Next project is learning to take those beautiful pictures like the rest of you.

That gun really fires my jets flatgate, about the neatest gun I have ever seen. Everytime that pic pops up I think unpure thoughts.

Will probably get the new one out to the range on Friday. Son and I may be able to get away from the wimminz to shoot it while the turkey is cooking and the bakers are a baking on Thanksgiving.

Thanks Sal. I walked away from it the first time this morning. After getting a haircut, passport photos and finishing some paperwork I thought WHAT THE HECK AM I DOING, and got meself back down to Cabela's, told them what I wanted to pay for it and brought it home. Great guys at the Glendale, AZ Cabela's Gun Library.

They look very much alike Heliman. But, I sure like your grips better. I was drooling over yours when you first posted the pics.

Good Job! those more "mature" Supers have a personality all their own, I think. My first was 4564 and i had it engraved with some gold edging, 25 years ago. Never regreted it. He is the Sgt of Arms for the hawkeye Girls........ 8)

Nice looking shooter :D Yup the grips gotta go. I lived in Glendale a few years ago...Have to agree with you on the nice weather :D

Was very disappointed with the pics so looked at some of the suggestions from you guys who take great photos. Tried again outside with natural light and got some that show the high gloss that didn't come through in the first set. Next time I will wipe the sawdust off after turning a gun over. This is really a nice looking gun. (except for the grips and Robb Barnes is taking care of that problem)

The wood bolts the gun is resting on is mesquite drying for eventual shipment to 41 Magnum to be made into grip panels

Got to see the Super in person yesterday and it's as nice in person as it appears in the pictures, really great find for Chance. I brought down about a dozen Rugers and he had a safe full of them, so we talked Rugers for about 2 hours or so and then went over to Cabelas to see if anything new had been put out since his score; nothing new. The Super will really look nice with the proper grips. And I think that four digit anything's are just a little more special and worth more to me, than five, six or prefix guns, but that's just me.

Thanks to Robb Barnes this beautiful gun has a new and correct set of grips and now looks like a proper Old Model Super Blawkhawk. THANKS ROBB
