Hi all,
I have a mystery that can only be solved with your help. The father of one of my closest friends died recently. His father would rotate with three other fathers taking us kids shooting on Saturdays. We were all very familiar with our local gun stores. When his father died he inherited as part of a very large gun collection 4 Old Model Blackhawks. The Blackhawks normally would not have been a surprise but they were consecutive serial number guns.
The mystery is that I always thought that ordering consecutive serial numbered Rugers was a recent thing. In the late 1950s early 1960s how common was it to find consecutive numbered guns in a store? None of us remember any of the 3 gun stores keeping more than 1 or 2 of any model in stock unless it was S&W or Colt. Now before you say that your local gun store kept a large stock of single action Rugers back then, that might be true but we grew up in Miami. The big gun store push did not start until the 1980s.
My buddy will be calling Ruger this week to see if they have any information.
