Curious what parts are interchangeable on an old model Blackhawk and old model single six? Asking because I found a reasonably priced OM single six but has been converted. Can I use old model Blackhawk internals to convert it back?

Yes!
Cylinder latch & spring
Trigger
Trigger spring & plunger
Pawl spring & plunger
Gate plunger/ spring/ screw
Gripframe & Screws

Now for the rest that are No-Go,,,Can be made to work,,, OR partial parts that will cross over.
PAWL, NO, Specific to Cylinder/ Caliber.
**Single Six hammer YES in a Blackhawk**. Blackhawk hammer in a Single Six, NO.
Hammer plunger & spring, YES/ Crossover.
Basepin can be cut down to fit the Single Six, but usually there are easily acquired or better options available, ie; a WTB placed here@ RFC.

**A Single Six hammer has been used in a Blackhawk to lower the thumb. Looks goofy but works.**

Since you've mentioned buying a Single-Six that has been converted,, and want to re-convert it,, it'd be best if you got the correct parts. The hammer height MIGHT be a problem,, and the base pin is a different length.
And a set of Blackhawk parts usually cost a little more than a set of Single-Six parts.

There's a post around here showing the different heights of the hammers and which ones may work.

Seems that you are more interested in "function" than "correct restoration".....If that is the case, the conversion base pin will still work fine if you remove the spring-loaded plunger that pushes against the conversion transfer bar. The change is hardly noticeable once the base pin is reinstalled....but...be aware that without the plunger, it will no longer work in a "converted" gun....Hope this helps.

yessir, easy enough to "undo" the springy thingy on the end of the conversion center pin, grind it off, fill in the hole with some J_B weld ,round ( polish ) it off , and you are good to go,,,as I noted above the Blackhawk pin will be longer anyway...its when you get any of the pins that have the "shoulder" you do not want that, the Single Six ones are just round the whole length, same as the early OM Blackhawks ..... ;)

. . . and I'm not even sure it's necessary to fill that empty hole in the end of the base pin. Just check to be sure it's not a little too long and interferes with the hammer fall. If so a little grinding, as Dan suggests.

Dan's method does make it look better, though. ;)

You can use a Blackhawk hammer in the single six for extra leverage for easier cocking, even the wide super Blackhawk hammer. In a super single six you need to grind off the top of the hammer so it doesn't hit the rear sight base. Or in a single six for looks.

I did that for a woman with weak hands.

..and yes we've used the pawl that was fitted by the factory for the safety update in place of any old model pawl that was NOT fitted to that gun, if the pawl you get in any "old model" set does NOT work properly ( timing will be off) and unless you know "How" to recut or shape a "longer" one ,best to use the one from the 'update' yes, sometimes things can "drop in" if they were fitted to a same vintage, era, model,,heck we got a drawer of them here have NO clue what they came out of, been so long ago.....at least we have used up most all the cylinders the past 35 years since we close the shop...........then again we've come across some old model .22cylinders that would NOT refit in another "like model", there was a "ratchet" change?? at some period of time????never could fine out "why" and all the old guys we dealt with back at the plant are all GONE.......:cool::unsure:

Hi Dan,
I don't think the old model 22 cylinders had a ratchet diameter change. However I am aware of change in the new model 22 cylinder ratchet diameter after 1984. That's the year of the first .32 H&R in single six frames. The .32 cylinder ratchet diameter is smaller than the 22 cylinder ratchet diameter because of the larger 32 chamber holes.

I believe Ruger then reduced the ratchet diameter of the 22 cylinders to match the 32 for simplification of manufacturing, instead of having two different ratchet diameters for the 22 and 32 small frame cylinders.

yes, I recall the caliber adaption /change of the early 80s , the difference in diameter of the chambers and all, but the ones I referring to were from the 1950s,I believe flatgates, and maybe either late 50s or early 60s as I said, it was way back, and had a couple of guns that were stripped out and had bunches of parts that just would NOT work, never did find out why.................had a few chats with Mr. Howe back then, I believe he even wrote some books too, wow brings back memories ,in fact got the new RCA journal today and lo and behold, pictures of many of the "olde phartes", nice job on "The Players" by Mr Dougan............(y)(y)
