Being a self proclaimed 41 Magnum fan and a very good boy for Christmas, I had to acquire one of the recently released Charter Arms 41 Pug revolvers. As I already have 8 S&W's and 2 Rugers, it seemed like the natural thing to do. The main thing I see the CA for is a light weight 41 Special carry revolver or trail gun. It weighs about half as much as a M57 or 7.5" Bisley. I was interested to see how it measures up with other 5 shot big bore revolvers, so I got out my M69 and my GP-100 44 special and my micrometer. The CA Pug has the largest diameter cylinder at 1.60", compared to 1.586" for the GP and 1.565" for the M69. The Pug has the shortest cylinder at 1.581", compared to the M69 at 1.666" and 1.613" for the GP. I found this a problem when I tried to close the cylinder on some Magnums loaded with the Lyman Keith bullet(410459) as the bullet protruded out of the front of the cylinder. By comparison, my M58 cylinder measured 1.75" in length and was 1.717" in diameter. The same bullet loaded in 41 Special brass works fine. Since I have 1000 41 Special brass, ammo will not be a problem. One of my favorite loads is a 170 Sierra over 9 grains of Blue Dot in Special cases or the Keith cast bullet over 7.5 Unique. While the Pug may not be my dream gun( a GP or mid frame Blackhawk) in 41, I'm going to give the Pug a try. And it's made in the USA and has a lifetime warranty. Bob!!
