Same here.I'm 78, I probably made it this far because I don't ride motorcycles.
‘67.It's good that you both realized that some people have no business on two wheels. That saves a lot of grief all around. Cograts on raising a good one Army brat. '66 or '67 Malibu in the background? I had a '66 SS 396 back in the good ole days. Had a lot of fun with that one.
Well, a GMG on 3 inch 50's - that really brings back a lot of memories. I was an FTG2 and I hung out in the armory a lot when not working. Got along real with the Gunner's mates. I was on the USS Bainbridge DLG(N) 25 with two 3" and 63 radar systems, and on the USS Ozark with one 5 inch 38. I was amazed how loud it was on the inside of a gun mount! Our 56 radar system was junk so we could never hit our "towed sleeve". We started hitting up close to the tow plane so he dropped the sleeve and told us to fix our equipment. We did alright with a towed sled and a big target! We got the word in '68 that a 5" 54 had blown up, fell over the side, and was lost on one of the DLG's (light cruisers). I think it might have killed someone - I heard they were investigating it and all the 5" 54's were secured until further notice. Oh, by the way I'm going on 77 in a couple of months and staying healthy.A Gunner’s Mate Guns. 3 inch 50s, then 5 inch 54s.
