Yup...I bought what will likely be my last truck in 2016. A 2016 Ram 2500 4x4 diesel. It was the most stripped-down version they made at the time and it was still north of $65k. I usually buy the low-end model and then add the stuff I want onto it instead of what the factory wants to add on to it. There is no way I'll ever be able to afford another so I'm hoping it will "live" as long as I do. If I had to replace it with a new version I believe they are all north of $100k now. I don't drive it far which may help its longevity. It just getting near 70,000 miles so that's about 10,000 miles a year. My diesel mechanic son says, with proper maintenance, the Cummins engine should go about 300,000. (fingers crossed, knock on wood, stick a rabbit's foot in the glove box, etc.)

Just got my "new" truck last week. It's a 2015 Toyota Tundra 4x4 with all the bells and whistles. Well it does now since I had remote start installed yesterday. Thought about getting a brand new one next year. Did the math and decided I could buy a lot of gas with the difference between new and previously owned. And I mean A LOT OF GAS!
Wow, I had no idea about current prices. I might be able to sell my 2017 truck for more than I paid!
It is a Chevy 3500HD LTZ diesel 4x4 dually crew cab w/8 foot box. It has turned out to be both too big and too small for my needs. I traded in a 2004 2500HD diesel short bed because I wanted to carry a slide-in truck camper, not realizing that the weight added by all the bells and whistles is subtracted from the max payload rating, which is down to 3920 pounds (and some truck campers are 5000 lb. dry weight & 6000 ready to camp). Then, the crew cab dually and 8' box make it pretty impractical to drive around for day-to-day retired-old-man use. So I don't drive it much and it only has 6000 miles on it! It mostly just sits in the garage, coming out for a little exercise now and then or to haul something that a half ton could carry. I bought it with a 0% interest 6 year loan that was paid off last November. I'll have to google around and see if it could be worth $90-$100K.

Congrats looks nice I did really well on the trade in I think it cost me 14000 to drive my Rav 4 around for 7 years not bad
My first new truck was in 2002 and it was a Ford F250 4x4. Nothing special in add-ons just the typical ones. I'm not big on all the bells and whistles. The cost at the time was $33,500. It lasted 15 years and had 233,000 miles on it. The 5.3 L motor still ran great. It was the rust that killed the truck as usual. Fast forward to the 2017 Ford F250 that replaced it. Virtually the same truck when you look at the add-ons. However this one has a 6.2 L motor in it. The difference in cost was about $10,000 at $43,750. I was tall that surprised at that increase over a 15 year period.
I just looked at the Ford website and built my truck to see what it would cost today 7 years later. It was $57,200, a difference of $14,000 in half the time of the first one. It doesn't look good for the younger generation when buying new trucks or cars for that matter.

Ford dropped F150 4x4 trucks with stick shift back in 2010. UNFORGIVABLE!!! I had a 2015 F150 4x4 extended cab but totaled it in a bad wreck. Replaced it with a 2019 four door 4x4. I hope it outlasts me.

I want Ford to build the 1977 F250 Highboy 4x4, solid axles, manual transmission, hand crank windows, power steering, bench seat, long box, standard and crew cab, no fancy electronics or phone/gps/tracking devices/ no automatic headlights (I HATE having some engineer in detroit [yeah, I didn't capitalize the d] deciding I absolutely must have headlights on when driving across pastures at night) A/C optional, heater standard, AM/FM radio, gun rack standard, cow dog optional…whew.
THAT was a mouthful….
Oh, yeah, Sticker price at $27,395.00.

I JUST picked up a new/old truck. A 1992 GMC Sierra C2500. It's really about half old as there are a LOT of new parts in it. Looks that I will improve ( Body fine, paint on doors sucks), but runs beautifully, and I was in need of a truck. My favorite part? CRANK windows. Tired of replacing regulators.
The basic box and wheels concept of a truck is gone. My dad and grandpa both had F250 Fords that they bought new in 1968 and 1970 respectively. Dad had a 360 V8 with a 4 speed heavy duty transmission and axle. Grandpa had a 240 6 cylinder with standard duty 4 speed transmission and axle. Dad worked on construction as a heavy equipment operator and grandpa was a masonry contractor. I believe both trucks were paid for in cash and were bought off the lot. They were heavily used and served the purpose that they were bought for.
I have that truck, only it's a 1975, bad part is she's sitting out back in the weeds too many Wisconsin winter for her , she could be made to run but man the rust is bad , I purchased it back in 1982 I think for $3,500 it was used with around 60,000 mile , came with the 360 & 4sp, took the 360 out found a old 390 block, bored that out 30 thousands, new cam, 428 heads , Holley carb, headers ,, heck it still has the old 16inch split rims on it

I had 2000 F150 6 cylinder best truck I ever had crank windows just a plain old truck I had 300000 miles on it gifted it to my son he still drives it every day .

In the 80's I was on a business trip in Europe and a senior manager from my company (who had no skills in the industry) went there on a junket and at breakfast one morning she was in a huff because they did not have any rental cars with an automatic transmission. I said (sotto voce) "it's too bad you don't know how to drive" she heard that and boy was she ticked off! She said "I KNOW HOW TO DRIVE" and I said, "Lady, you can drive a bus, truck, tractor or anything with wheels and a manual transmission once you learn to drive if not, you do not know how to drive. Ticked off +2
THEN, after saying that she figured to bully me and said that being a manager it was too bad for me that I was going to drive her about the country after work and weekends. I told her that no way was I going to drive her around on my evenings and days off and to get a taxi... she left the table and never spoke to me again
It's a good thing she wasn't MY manager!
